Levels

Beginner

  • You’re new to mountain biking or you’ve mostly stuck to easy trails. You want to build confidence, learn the basics, and have more control on the bike.

  • These are some of the lessons that I offer for beginner riders on grade 3 trails:

    • Body position

    • Smooth gear changing

    • Braking

    • Line choice

    • Skill - front wheel lift & rear wheel lift

    • Feeling nervous or tense on the bike

    • Braking too hard or too late on descents

    • Losing balance or putting a foot down in corners

    • Struggling with steep or uneven terrain

    • Not knowing the right body position for control

    • Hesitating on small features like roots or rocks

    • Lacking confidence to ride trails alone or with friends

    • Build confidence on the bike – feel stable, balanced, and in control.

    • Master safe braking – stop smoothly without skidding or losing balance.

    • Learn correct body position – ride with proper posture for control and safety.

    • Take on corners with confidence – flow through turns without fear.

    • Ride basic trails comfortably – enjoy green trails and start exploring easy blue trails.

    • Understand trail safety and bike setup – know how to ride safely and keep your bike ready for the trail.

Intermediate

  • You’re comfortable on your bike and know the basics, but you want to take things to the next level. You’re looking to ride with more flow, tackle more challenging terrain, and feel confident in different trail situations.

  • These are some of the lessons that I offer for intermediate riders on grade 4 trails:

    • Body position

    • Braking & braking zones

    • Line choice

    • Cornering body position

    • Angulation for corners

    • Jumping

    • Skill - bunny hops

    • Skill - stopies

    • Skill - whips

    • Skill - wheelies

    • Losing flow through technical sections

    • Braking too much before or in corners

    • Hesitating on drops, jumps, or roll-downs

    • Struggling to maintain traction on steep or loose climbs

    • Inconsistent line choice through rock gardens or roots

    • Stalling or losing momentum on technical climbs

    • Feeling stuck at the same riding level and not progressing

    • Maintain flow on technical trails – ride smoothly through roots, rocks, and tight turns.

    • Corner faster and with more control – enter and exit turns at speed without sliding out.

    • Confidently ride drops and small jumps – handle features with the right technique and commitment.

    • Climb steep or loose terrain – keep traction and momentum even on tricky uphills.

    • Make faster, smarter line choices – pick the path that saves energy and keeps speed.

    • Link features together – ride multiple trail challenges without losing rhythm.

Advanced

  • You’re an experienced rider who’s ready to fine-tune your technique. You want to ride faster, smoother, and with more precision, pushing your skills to handle any trail with confidence.

  • These are some of the lessons that I offer for advanced riders on grade 4+ trails:

    • Race braking & 2-1-none

    • Advanced line choice

    • Hip drive & rotation

    • Skill - scrub

    • Skill - manual

    • Skill - cutties/shralps

    • Race simulation

    • Finding the fastest, smoothest lines at fast pace

    • Keeping speed while linking multiple technical features

    • Over-braking or under-braking at high speed

    • Carrying corner speed consistently on all trail types

    • Struggling to adapt quickly to new or unfamiliar terrain

    • Small mistakes adding up to slower lap times

    • Losing focus or flow under race pressure

    • Pushing limits without sacrificing safety or control

    • Ride the fastest, smoothest lines – carry speed through technical and high-speed sections.
